Approach: Using a few key assumptions in our work, I believe you have what it takes to make your life better: Others cannot do this for you, You know yourself better than I know you and, I can help you harness your strengths in making the changes that are most important to you.

How: We will start with compassion. I will show you dignity and respect, and we will move toward the important therapeutic milestone of self understanding. There may be a gap in how you feel about your life and how you want to feel about it. I bring the expectation that you will be active in learning how to show yourself more compassion in the process. You deserve it.

I will not pathologize you, undermine you, or treat you as if I know more about who you are than you do. These therapeutic steps will will help us on our journey: First, a plan of action that is mutually developed is critical; You need to believe in what you are doing. Next, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and emotion-focused therapy (EFT), two highly validated approaches, will help us both speak in a particularly constructive language. My intention is to share and demonstrate how you can use these powerful internal tools for the rest of your life. Finally, a combination of hard work and a growing openness to the challenges and wonder of our conversations help maintain each successful step you take.  When you are ready, I am available to help you jump-start the deeply personal journey. As your ally, you do not have to do this all alone.

Education & Research:  Patrick studied philosophy at the University of California, Irvine, went abroad to study at Pembroke College, Cambridge University, and earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Francisco. He is currently a PhD candidate in that program completing doctoral research to develop a conceptual model of adolescent and early adult online aggression. Part of his work involves developing a treatment manual and assessment tool for internet trolling. Patrick has presented at several professional conferences (APA, APS) on the effects of aggression, parental incarceration, and locus of control.
